Cooperhaus Kennels specializes in not only training any and all breeds of dogs, but teaching dog owners how to control their dogs. Through many years of training dogs on a daily basis, we have become experts at communicating with dog owners, regarding the individual needs of their dogs. People must first accept the fact that the "bad" things dogs do are done only because the dog's owner allows it.
We train dogs for real-life situations. The dogs are trained with other dogs and lots of distractions. Dogs perform down stays and other exercises, while other dogs are just running loose on free time. Dogs are trained to "come" immediately when called, even if they are playing with a group of other dogs.
We can obedience train any dog, big or small.
"POSITIVE" or "NEGATIVE" DOG TRAINING METHODS
Many people ask if we use "positive" methods or "negative" training methods...
It is important to realize that life is full of "positive" and "negative" experiences. Therefore, nothing is 100% positive. Discipline is needed. Of course, the training is definitely more "positive" when you start out with a puppy and properly raise it from a young age. However, in most cases we see, client's have dogs that are over a year old and totally out of control, often trying to bite people and fight other dogs. Many of these customers were advised to put their dog to "sleep" by other dog trainers and/or veterinarians due to the dog's "extreme aggresion." We even had a client who had a very aggressive Rott. and every time he gave the dog a command the dog would act like he wanted to rip the guy's head off. The client was seeing a trainer, who advised him to feed the dog a hot dog every time he growled. After a huge grocery bill, the client called us and after working the dog for a few lessons the dog realized being aggressive towards his owner and whomever he chose was not acceptable. The work was done with a muzzle, choke chain, and leash. By the end of the training, the dog was reliable around other dogs and people. Now, this "miracle" did not occur strictly through "positive" reinforcement, but a combination. My philosophy is negative + negative = positive, which means when the dog demonstrates a "negative" behavior, they receive an immediate correction ("negative") which is equal to the "negative" behavior. This causes the dog to realize that "negative" actions are not acceptable and the behavior quickly changes (positive).
Many of our clients come to us after going to several other trainers and/or classes that did not work because of the extreme aggression of the dogs. We are experts in training even the most problem/aggressive dogs. Call us before you give up on your dog!

- Private Obedience Lessons:
5 Session Program: on-leash obedience; basics of off-leash obedience; dog socialization, all problem behaviors, question and answer sessions. All training equipment included. - $500.
These 5 sessions are at our facility, usually on a weekly basis and are at least one hour long. The success in this program depends on the committment and willingness of the dog owner to train their dog, according to my direction, on a daily basis. Many dogs are absolutely doing every exercise off of the leash by the end of the 5th session because the hard work of the owner. Some say they don't have the time or patience to work with their dog, in some capacity, everyday. If this is the case, the 'Boarding and Training' program may be a better choice.
- Boarding & Obedience Training:
4 Week Program: On-leash obedience; basic off-leash obedience; dog socialization; all problem behaviors. All training equipment included. - $1,700.
6 Week Program: Dog stays at trainer's home for the last 2 weeks of training, in a real family situation, which will help teach your dog to apply the obedience training to an everyday lifestyle. - $2,400.
*Please Note: For the boarding and training programs, there is a $200 dollar additional charge for dogs displaying inappropriate aggression issues.
In both of these programs, the dog is kept at our facility for a 4 week period of time, where they are housed in a kennel and receive an extensive amount of exercise on a daily basis. The dogs are exercised with other dogs compatible to them and learn how to properly socialize with other dogs. Most dogs we see have some sort of issues with other dogs, often to their owner's surprise. The dogs are trained on a daily basis by me (Brent) and 'control' is the focus. The dogs are working on and off of the leash upon pick up. Upon pick up, the dog is demonstrated to the owner to show the dog has been trained. After the demonstration, the owner is reunited with their dog and then taught the basics of how to handle that individual dog. After about a two week period of time, the owners are encouraged to return with the dog to learn more aspects of controlling their dog. This follow up lesson is included in the 'Boarding and Training' price.
In the 6 week program, after 4 weeks of living at the kennel, I bring the dog to my actual house for the final 2 weeks, which helps the dog learn how to apply their new obedience skills in an everyday, family life type of situation. The dog will be in my house with my family and learn proper interaction skills.

Grimm of Cooperhaus at only 12 months old.
Performing a "2 sleeve" exercise. This exercise is performed to ensure the dog is focused on the agitator and not the sleeve. Notice how quickly Grimm lets go of the sleeve once the agitator releases it. He focuses back on the agitator and bites, again. This is what separates our dogs from Schutzhund dogs. They bite for real!

We train dogs to alert, bite and release on command. Dogs are trained to bite anywhere on a full body suit and are very serious. They are not trained to focus on the equipment, but on the actual "bad guy." Hidden sleeves are used to insure dogs will bite without seeing equipment. Our training focuses on real-life situations and teaches dogs to bite, on command, without seeing a sleeve, which is much different from dogs that are trained to do Schutzhund training.
The dogs are trained to be fearless when "alerted" and cannot be backed down by a stick or any other way. Dogs are introduced to gunfire and other distractions during the protection training. All of the dogs are trained to release the bite, immediately, on command. Dogs must be properly socialized and obedience trained prior to being considered as a protection dog candidate. All dogs must undergo an evaluation to determine if they are protection trainable. Cooperhaus Kennels is capable of customizing any protection training to meet your individual needs. We can train dogs that qualify to be a family protection dog, business-security dog, or whatever you need.

OFF-LEASH:
Includes all obedience exercises & protection exercises (mentioned above), but off of the leash. Includes distance bite work on a full-body suit.
Training sessions are usually once or twice per week at our facility. The owner transports their dog to and from the lessons. Most dogs complete program in 3-6 months.
Dogs are boarded and trained at Cooperhaus Kennels until they are trained to the level specified by our clients. Training usually takes 1-3 months, depending on the maturity level of the dog and the level of training.
*** Prices for protection training are quoted on a per dog basis, depending on the level of training desired and the individual dog.
